Getting visitors to your website is only part of the job. You also need to give them relevant opportunities to engage while they’re there.

One metric we use to evaluate that is Offer Impression Rate, or the percentage of unique visitors who see an onsite offer. We generally look for at least 35%, but coverage is only one part of a strong engagement strategy.

If you’re already using Ignite, these five practices can help you get more from the traffic you’re already generating.

1. Keep Two Evergreen Offers Active

Not every offer needs to be tied to a short-term campaign.

Evergreen offers give your largest audience groups a consistent opportunity to engage. We typically recommend keeping at least two relevant evergreen offers active so visitors don’t have to fit into a narrow segment before they see something useful.

For a dealership, that might mean one offer for first-time visitors and another for returning customers. Other businesses may define those audiences differently, but the principle is the same: make sure your largest groups have a relevant path forward.

2. Use Targeted Offers Based on Visitor Behavior

Broad coverage matters, but not everyone should see the same message.

Someone repeatedly viewing the same vehicle or product category is giving you different information than someone visiting the site for the first time. A visitor exploring trade-in, pricing, or financing content may also need a different next step than someone who’s still browsing broadly.

Alongside evergreen offers, we typically recommend running two or three targeted offers based on behaviors, interests, or current campaigns.

In automotive, that could include:

  • Shoppers repeatedly viewing a specific vehicle or model
  • Visitors exploring trade-in or appraisal pages
  • People interacting with financing or payment content
  • Shoppers browsing inventory tied to a current promotion

The goal is to use the behavior you already have to make offers more relevant without creating so many overlapping campaigns that they become difficult to manage.

3. Make the Conversion Path Easy Across Devices

A relevant offer can still lose the conversion if taking the next step feels like work.

Ignite’s Conversion Hub gives visitors quick access to actions such as Special Offers, Credit Check, or Schedule Test Drive. When someone selects an action, they can move into a text-based claim flow without manually completing a traditional lead form.

Conversion Hub is enabled for mobile by default and can now also be configured for desktop, giving teams the option to extend the experience across devices.

The important part is looking at the path from interest to action and removing unnecessary friction wherever you can.

4. Pay Attention When Past Customers Come Back

Website engagement isn’t only about net-new traffic.

A past customer returning to your site can be a meaningful signal that they’re back in market. The Customer Loyalty Engine helps identify those returning customers and make that activity actionable.

Past customer lists can be uploaded into Ignite, which then monitors website traffic for those customers returning. When an eligible past customer is identified, their website activity can be tracked, a configured loyalty email can be sent, and the team can receive a Loyalty Lead Alert for follow-up.

Recognizing that return gives you an opportunity to engage someone with an existing relationship to your business instead of treating them like a brand-new prospect.

5. Refresh Your Segments and Offers Monthly

Your website engagement strategy shouldn’t stay static while the rest of your marketing changes.

Inventory shifts. Promotions come and go. Customer priorities change. The segments and offers running on your site should reflect what’s happening now.

A monthly review gives you a consistent opportunity to retire outdated campaigns, adjust targeting, and update your customer segmentation strategy instead of letting the same campaigns run indefinitely.

For an automotive site, that might mean revisiting segments around:

  • Seasonal or holiday event shoppers
  • High-intent shoppers with repeat VDP activity
  • Visitors exploring trade-in or appraisal tools
  • Payment-focused shoppers engaging with financing content

The right segments will change over time, so regular reviews matter.

Get More From the Traffic You Already Have

Improving website engagement isn’t about adding more offers everywhere. It’s about making sure the right visitors have relevant opportunities to engage and an easy way to take the next step.

Evergreen offers help establish broad coverage. More targeted offers respond to specific behaviors and interests. Conversion Hub can reduce friction. Customer Loyalty Engine gives you a way to recognize returning customers. Regular reviews keep your segments and offers aligned with what matters now.

Together, these practices can help you make better use of the identity and behavior data Ignite is already surfacing and create more relevant opportunities for your website visitors to engage.
